H! My name is John and welcome to my Health Coaching world!
I was always active growing up- hockey, lacrosse, biking, hiking. Anything active and outdoors is what I loved. In the summer our family would go to upstate New York and work on our family farm. Raising cattle, bringing in hay and riding motorcycles.
As I got older, I became more of a weekend warrior and the injuries started mounting up, along with the unwanted fat deposits.
Then it happened. My back went out and I went into severe back spasms. It felt like electric shocks emanating from my lower back. It dropped me to the floor. I tried to get up and the shocks started again. I then crawled into another room and collapsed and laid there hoping the pain would subside. I was there for seven days, unable to get off the floor.
This gave me lots of time to think. Sometimes I’d get depressed and wonder if I was ever going to get better. Maybe I’d never really recover and just be a basket case. Most of the time I was thinking about how I could beat this “back thing” and get my life back.
During my search for healing I found this book called “Foundation Training” by Dr. Eric Goodman. Something about it struck a chord, it made sense to me. I bought the book and started the training program. By the second week my body responded and I knew I’d found my first step out of back pain. My back started getting stronger, pain was reducing and I was feeling the strength grow in my major muscle groups, glutes, hamstrings, and calves.
I loved feeling strong again, so I went to Park City, Utah and became a Certified Foundation Training Instructor. My back continued to get stronger and my fear around another back episode was over. Time to take it to the next level and help others.
Enter the Kettlebell. My back was strong but I wanted to get stronger, like I was back in High School and College. Kettlebells were the key. I read Pavel Tsatsouline’s book “Simple and Sinister” and I knew I’d found my strength program. He emphasized similar principles as Dr. Goodman – neutral spine and perfect technique.
Currently, I’m training to get certified as a SFG Level 1 Instructor. SFG means Strong First Girya (Kettlebell) as my back gets stronger with each training session.
My back is strong and my body is getting stronger and healthier. If you’d like to get rid of back pain and get your life back, you’ve come to the right place.
Welcome and Be Strong!
